Born in China in 1970, Chen Ruo Bing now resides in Duesseldorf, Germany. After studying Chinese traditional landscape painting at National Academy of Fine Arts, Hangzhou in China, he moved to Germany in 1992. Since his graduation form the G. Graubner class at the Art Academy in Duesseldorf in 1998, Chen has exhibited his works in France and Germany. In 2000 he invited to the United States under the artist-in-residence program at Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Connecticut.

Sublation of Chinese traditional painting and European modernist painting

Ever since Chen was studying at the Art Academy in Duesseldorf, he paints simple geometric forms repeatedly on canvas, and gives equal value to the image and the background. This is his experiment to unite, in his painting, the tradition of Chinese painting which is already a part of his nature, with the European modernism.
With his shallow, decorative painting space, with the delicate blot of acrylic which reminds us ink painting in China, and with the metaphysical light overflowing from the inside of the painting to our world, Chen succeeded to produce very unique and attractive paintings.
Now Chen has already spent fourteen years in Germany. It seems that he has obtained his own original painting style, easily jumped over the framework of confrontation of the East and the West however his fundamental stance is the same and consistent, which is a Chinese painter who is working in the middle of European modern culture.

Chen Ruo Bing had one man show at Museum am Ostwall, Dortmund, Germany in 2004. Planning to have one man show at Koelner Kunstverein and to participate in group show at Kunstmuseum Bonn and "Metaphysics" at Shanghai Art Museum in his home country in 2005. He is now getting great concern not only from Europe but also from Asia.

Following to his first one person show at taguchi fine art, ltd. in 2003, this time 6 paintings, including "Into the Light" which consists of 4 panels, will be on view.
On this occasion a catalogue, with an essay by Dr. Dieter Ronte, the director of Kunstmuseum Bonn in four languages (English, German, Japanese and Chinese), is published in cooperation with Galerie Fesel, Duesseldorf.
