Born in China in 1970, Chen Ruo Bing now resides in Duesseldorf, Germany and Hangzhou, China. After studying Chinese traditional painting and calligraphy at National Academy of Fine Arts, Hangzhou in China, he moved to Germany in 1992. Since his graduation form the G. Graubner class at the Art Academy in Duesseldorf in 1998, Chen has exhibited his works in France, Germany, Japan and China. In 2000 he invited to the United States under the artist-in-residence program at Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Connecticut.

Ever since Chen was studying at the Art Academy in Duesseldorf, he paints simple geometric forms repeatedly on canvas, and gives equal value to the image and the background. This is his experiment to unite, in his painting, the tradition of Chinese paintings which is already a part of his nature, with the European modernism.

With his shallow, decorative painting space, with the delicate blot of acrylic which reminds us ink painting in China, and with the metaphysical light overflowing from the inside of the painting to our world, Chen produces very unique and attractive paintings.

Now Chen has already spent fifteen years in Germany. It seems that he has obtained his own original painting style, easily jumped over the framework of confrontation of the East and the West however his fundamental stance is the same and consistent, which is a Chinese painter who is working in the middle of European modern culture.

In 2006, Chen Ruo Bing had one man show at Shanghai Art Museum and Fuhrwerkswaage Kunstraum e.V. in Koeln-Suerth, Germany. In May Chen Ruo Bing Museum, which displays only his works and Chinese antiques, opened in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province in China. In Japan, he joined in the three person show titled "An Existence" at Shiseido Gallery in Tokyo. He is now getting great concern not only from Europe but also from Asia.

This one person show by Chen Ruo Bing at taguchi fine art, ltd. consists of only drawings with ink and oil pastel, that is the first occasion for the artist. In these monochrome drawings, of which forms and spaces are different from those in his paintings on canvas, we can see the origin of his work, that is Chinese traditional paintings and calligraphy.
