Born in China in 1970, Chen Ruo Bing now resides and works in Duesseldorf, Germany and Beijing, China. After studying Chinese traditional ink painting and calligraphy at National Academy of Fine Arts, Hangzhou in China, he moved to Germany in 1992. Since his graduation form the Gotthard Graubner class at the Art Academy in Duesseldorf in 1998, Chen has exhibited his works internationally, both in Europe and Asia.

In 2006 had one person show at Shanghai Art Museum and "Chen Ruo Bing Museum" also named "House of Light", which displays only his works and Chinese antiques, opened in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province in China. In the same year he joined in the three-person show titled "An Existence" at Shiseido Gallery in Tokyo, Japan. He held many one person shows and participated in group shows in museums in Germany, China and South Korea. Currently Kunstmuseum Bochum, Germany has his solo show, "Der Maler, Chen Ruo Bing". He periodically has exhibitions at galleries in Germany, Netherlands, China, South Korea and Japan, and his works are exhibited in art fairs in Germany, Netherlands, China, South Korea, Japan, United States, England and Australia. He also participated artists residency programs as Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Connecticut in 2000. His works are housed in the collection of museums in Germany, China and South Korea.

His work is the experiment to unite in his painting, the tradition of Chinese painting and Chinese philosophy as Tao-ism, Confucianism and Buddhism which is already a part of his nature, with the European modernism where he lives in. With the equal value of the image and the background made by repeated geometric forms, the shallow and decorative painting space, the delicate blot of acrylic which reminds us ink painting in China, the composition with only simple geometric forms as square and circle, and bright color which evokes the sense of joy, and with the metaphysical light overflowing from the inside of the painting, Chen produces very unique, meditative and attractive paintings. Chen has already spent the half of his life in Germany and it seems that he has obtained his own original painting style, jumping over the framework of confrontation of the East and the West however his fundamental stance is the same and consistent, which is a Chinese painter who is working in the middle of European modern culture.
